Tell us about who you are and what you do?

My name is Sara, I'm a fashion designer and ceramic artist based in both Mullumbimby and Bali.

What’s something you do every day which sets your creativity on fire?

What helps me be creative is to constantly be in the creative process, to be sketching, designing, making, creativity is a constant evolution of ideas. I also love hiking and spending time in nature that isn't touched by a lot of human activity. I always feel most inspired in these places.

What’s the most treasured item in your home?

My dog Golden charlie fox, or foxy for short.

What does your average workday look like?

My day always starts with the gym or a yoga session, and my work day is very variable depending on what is needed in my small business at the time. It ranges from working on new designs, to updating my online platforms to working with my tailors and dyehouse on production. It's varied and that works for me, it keeps life interesting.

Can you pinpoint the moment your hobby turned into a profession?

It was in 2009, I was planning on living in California for the year, I was going to study herbalism, but I got my visa denied. Up until this point I was selling my designs in festivals and everyone was loving them but I would have never called myself a designer. I took the visa denial as a sign that I was meant to focus on fashion, and that is when I started taking it more seriously.

What’s a skill you want to accomplish in 2024

In the world of fashion i would love to learn more about draping, i just love the look of draped fabric. Though my main up skill this year has been taking the time to focus on ceramics and ceramic lighting design.

If you could collaborate with anyone (brand or individual) who would it be?

There's a lot of artists I'd love to collaborate with - I guess if I could choose anyone it would be Vivianne Westwood, what a legendary woman so inspiring, using fashion to get her message across until the end.

If you could see your work displayed absolutely anywhere, where would it be?

I'd love to have a store in LA,  i sell a lot online in the USA so I feel a shop there would work for me.

You’ve got a week off… where are you headed?

Some where the wild flowers are in bloom.

What’s your favourite project/design so far and why?

My latest investigations into digital print and different plant dyes on throws and scarves has been really interesting and feels like something I want to explore further - the prints of nature on transparent silk work so beautifully, and it's a great way to capture a little of that inspiration we were talking about earlier and putting it into a form that can be worn daily.

What's your signature dish?

BBQ fish and salad and in the winter time beef rendang

How do you stay balanced?

Yoga, Gym and walks on the beach with foxy - i need to do something physical daily.

Minimalist or Maximalist

Minimalist

I couldn’t get through the weekend without……

coffee / yoga and cuddles with my dog foxy.
